Plumbing takes into consideration water works, this category is usually dispersed into two broad categories:

1. Plumbing: This refers to anything and everything that is undertaken in a bid to avail water to a building, residence, apartment condominium etc. The water we are referring to here is in the form of clean, drinking, bathing water. Drinking water must be wholesome and unhampered.

2. Drainage: This refers to all the activities that require the removal of used water from a residence, this water takes form into waste water from basins, sinks, toilets, showers, form washing machines etc.

The following different methods and materials used to accomplish the objects described above.

Piping: Water is delivered in a steady flow from pipes with the users custom temperature desire. Water pipes are usually small in diameter. These are considered clean water pipes that provide clean water to sinks, shower heads, toilets, faucets, water hose, sprinkler systems and so on.

Drainage pipes on the other hand are the complete opposite; these pipes are in charge of removing waste water from a property. Drainage pipes are usually larger in diameter and laid in a declined elevation manner. This technique is used to ensure that the waste water is removed with the help of gravity, thus reducing the costs as would be incurred in pumping out waste water. These pipes are usually concealed for security and aesthetics throughout your home, inside walls, under floor boards, or underground.

The various types of pipes used are as follows:

Galvanized Iron Pipes: These are common in the plumbing trade. This material is desirable for their ability to withstand pressure (internal as well as external) and heat.  Although this material is know for its strengths some of the disadvantages are:

-Furring: This is caused from the accumulation of carbon deposits in hot water pipes, which leads to inevitable blockage.

-Rusting: Not always a major factor, these pipes are prone to rusting overtime and as such need protection.

-Price: These pipes are more costly than its plastic counterpart.

Pvc Pipes: This pipe is constructed from light duty plastic, it is commonly used in drainage and plumbing. Its disadvantage is due to its weakness to strong water pressure and heat. However it is cheaper than GI pipes and does not pose a problem when it comes to furring.

PPR: This is somewhat of a new generation of heavy duty plastic pipe. It is sought out for its ability to withstand both pressure and hot temperatures as well as being flexible for the use in construction. This material is very suitable for plumbing purposes.

Joining: All pipes are married with joining parts known as unions, bends, reducers and adapters; they are then attached by either being screwed, glued or welded together.

Storage: water storage is usually installed underground or in elevated levels. Drainage waste is either stored in a septic tank or transferred to treatment facilities.

Overall the use of plumbing is to connect freshwater to houses from facilities and waste water to treatment plants were it can be disposed of properly and minimizing the impact on the surrounding environment.
